The Oriole is the state bird for Maryland. The present
day Orioles came from St. Louis, where their name was
the Browns. The team decided to revert to the name from
an older Baltimore club named the Orioles.

Named the Boston Somersets in 1901-02, after their
owner, Charles Somers, the team changed its name to the
Boston Pilgrims, and then to the Red Sox in 1907.
